There are things you want to do in the gym like workout hard, smart and try to progressively overload at all opportunities. Then, there are the things that you never ever want to do in a gym. In this video, I’m going to show you the 10 worst things you can do in a gym to hopefully make sure that you are not one of the ones that winds up doing these. We all know, there are far too many people out there in gyms across the World doing them already.

So what are the top ten gym sins? First, you have to pick up your dumbbells. Simply being lazy and leaving your dumbbells strewn across the gym floor is not only discourteous but it’s a downright fire hazard. Imagine if a fire broke out in your gym? The real danger might not even be the flames but your likelihood to face plant on the way out the door when you trip over one of those random 50’s.

Next, there’s no screaming allowed when you train. If you can’t lift the weight without letting everyone else know what your primal scream sounds like then I don’t know what to say. I get it, you like the sound of your voice and it pumps you up. Is my knowing about it worth the permanent hearing loss?

The next is just foolish. I understand how important it is to remain hydrated when you train but the gallon of water guy tends to go a little too far. I mean, does anyone need that much liquid? You obviously can get through your workout with a standard-sized water bottle. If not, there’s a water fountain. But this way, we’re all aware and totally impressed with your hydration dedication.

Next, I’m not sure who is worse off, the person feeling the need to take the selfies in the gym while working out or the poor sap on the receiving end of the text. Either way, put the phone away. Unless you’re using that sucker as a timer for your intense training or following a workout directly from your app, the camera should be completely disabled to spare those who are actually there to workout.

Then it never fails. It always seems like there is the local gym hoarder. The one person whose workout consists of utilizing virtually every single piece of equipment at the same time in some ultimate superset. Want to use the dumbbells? Sorry, they are using ALL of them. The jump rope? Nope, that’s somehow involved with the dumbbells. The bike? No way, that is where they are headed after the jump rope dumbbell combo. Guess it’s time to head to the locker room.

Oh no, even the locker room isn’t safe. That is wear creepy naked guy is waiting for you to discuss the weather, politics or basically any other inappropriately random crap that certainly doesn’t need to be discussed in the nude if at all! These guys tend to creep up on you when you least expect it. Caution, try never to sit down when talking to them. This puts you squarely eye to, well you get it.

The sweat hog is another all too common member of your gym. Do they not know they are leaving puddles the size of Lake Huron behind them after they leave the equipment they are using or do they just not care? Either way, it’s not enough to bring a towel with you and clean up after them as you train. Better bring some lysol too. Never know what kind of chemicals are being excreted through those rude and proliferative sweat glands.

These are just a few of the people that you are likely to see at the gym. The biggest thing however is that you want to make sure that you are not one of them. With the help of this video, and a little common decency, you should be able to safely navigate the tricky waters and be sure that you are one of the respected members of your gym.

Regardless of where you train however, the important thing is to train hard and train right. If you want to do both (and have the option of staying home and safely working out in your home gym) then head to and choose the athlean-x Training program best suited to your current goals. You can train home or at the gym and use the same step by step training programs used by today’s top pro athletes while avoiding the mistakes that many other gym goers make that cost them their gains (and reputation).

  1. What I see at times is when a person is using a lat pull down machine and goes across the gym and use the Smith Machine. It’s okay if the gym isn’t crowded. But if it is, just use one machine.

  2. I’ve found this stuff is a lot more common when people go to the gym in groups. Half they time they don’t get an effective workout in, instead socializing and doing the above mentioned things, so if you are going to the gym in a group make sure your dudes are on task!

  3. Great video. The author is great. If it's not difficult to look at my channel, there you will see what a strongman from Russia is capable of and a lot of other things about sports……..,,,,,

  4. Hilarious!!! Haven't had to deal with this since COVID but one of my pet peeves used to be guys who would sit butt naked on the benches in the locker room. Dude!! There's a reason they created paper toilet seats. To these guys who do this: would it have killed you to put a towel between your butt and the bench?

  5. My favourite is the one who snatches the mirror from you to then not give a flying fuck about his form and just use it to look at himself flexing. Also the guy who uses the idk like back extension machine with 40kg on and before he leaves he sneakily puts it on 80kg jut to look cool even tho he never lifted those weights. Also the guy doing bicep curls in the squat rack.
