How to Get Stronger on EVERY EXERCISE (Works Immediately!)

Don’t just get stronger…get athlete strong with athlean-x

Whether you are wondering how to get stronger or just how to put on more muscle, any plan of attack should focus on increasing strength. Even if you’re not training for pure strength there is definitely a correlation between muscle size and how strong you are. That said, your workout program should be pushing you to progressively lift more weight so you can experience the muscle growth benefits of overload.

The challenge however is making significant strength gains from workout to workout. Lots of times, experienced lifters will hit plateaus in their ability to continue to add strength. It just gets hard to lift more weight on every exercise when you are already at your near max for those exercises. New exercisers will find it much easier to add more weight because of their rapidly adapting neural gains.

That said, neural gains don’t just come from getting a better mind muscle link and motor unit activation. You can trigger neural gains in muscle by simply making a more conscious effort to activate and co-contract the muscles up and down the kinetic chain during all exercises. By doing this, you create a stable chain and therefore a more efficient energy transfer to the working muscles. The end result is you learn how to get stronger on every exercise and you lift more weight every workout.

With the three exercises that I show you in this video you will see how to get stronger by just making a few of these changes and plugging what I call are the neural leaks. By closing the gaps on these leaks you will direct more force to the working muscles and allow you to lift heavier.

For a complete program that pushes you to all new levels of functional strength and is geared at working your intensely on every exercise, be sure to check out the athlean-x program at

  1. It's May 2022 and excellent timing finding this vid now. Tomorrow is week 1 day 5 of 1 below xero, first exercise pushups to failure. Since joining team athlean I've discovered where my weaknesses are, and pushups is one of them. Two months ago I struggled to do 10, but going through this training I can now do 25 to failure, but I still feel like I'm top heavy. I just thought I'll get better as I go but now realise it's more likely energy leaks, can't wait to try the tips in this vid to plug the energy leaks and see how I go, thanks Jeff, always awesome content, past and present. Cheers.

  2. absolutely right for example: how weightlifters lift weights? they apply Speed + Strength of their muscle to hold the weight in a proper form. What Powerlifters do is that they take the speed out of the equation and basically they do Hypertrophy + Strength. That is why a weightlifter can be strong as a powerlifter but weighs less than the powerlifter. Because weightlifter in Olympics lift weight with speed and power involved but powerlifters lift the weight with total raw strength with slow speed.

  3. Oh my Gosh…. Im applying ur valuable directions when I train in the gym I feel that all the others are a bunch of handicaps that worse their form…. thx Jeff.

  4. I have a question.
Iā€™m a normal old run-of-the-mill tech kid who has a bit of fat in the front but extremely skinny. Noodle arms.
If I could start doing push ups by the minimum, trying harder each day, would I get stronger? But just for some more backround, I can barely carry a gallon of milk.

  5. This is crucial, well done! As well as brain-muscle connection, of course!
Also, tip about moving chest and hips at the same time when doing squat – I instantly felt core working šŸ˜€ great trick!
Heard you speaking about Bruce Lee in one of your videos <3 This reminds of him, using it all.

  6. So basically…stay tight. Once strength builds over time, every seasoned lifter should of noticed these things and naturally adjusted for them.
